Crossroads Digital Art and Design

All lessons, activities and projects are designed to guide students through the Course Content Standards and benchmarks of the State Of Michigan Department of Education and the National Art Education Association. In addition, specific lessons and assignments will target the language arts standards for technical subjects as required by the Common Core Standards which the state of Michigan has adopted.
Course Requirements and Expectations
1. Art Journal
Successful students will make and maintain a digital art journal with a minimum of 20 numbered and dated entries, including the following:
- Art Start daily activities
- Group activity written responses
- Lesson notes
- All journal entries must be labeled with a title and date to receive full credit
2. Projects
Successful students will complete a number of self-selected individual and small group “Real World” projects utilizing a variety of digital tools to include:
- Photography
- Video
- Claymation/ Stop Action
- Publishing Software
- Animation
3. Reading Tasks
Successful students will read and respond in writing to weekly, non-fiction selections about digital art and design:
- Variety of internet print resources
- Scholastic Arts magazine article
- Current events article related to the arts
4. Writing Tasks
Successful students will engage in weekly writing activities as appropriate to the needs of self-selected projects.
5. Behavior Expectations
Successful students will demonstrate respect toward each other, the teacher and the environment. Students are expected to:
- Come to class on time with pencil and planner.
- Begin the Art Start independently, within one minute of the class start time.
- Bring an enthusiastic attitude to class
- Work well with group mates
- Take care with materials and equipment, conserving and recycling
6. Grades
Point totals for the term may vary slightly due to a number of factors.
- Art Journal = 20
- Weekly On-Task points = 80
Students at risk for failure will receive a call home to discuss plans for improving achievement. Missing/ incomplete work may be turned in for full credit up to the last Wednesday of the end of each term. Consult the school calendar for specific dates. Students may stay after school on Tuesdays to receive extra help.
